I'm all about transparency. I don't like feeling like I'm tricking people or hiding something from them. Ask my boyfriend. He definitely wishes I would keep quiet about some things.
Anyway, I've been reading a lot of books recently on how to market myself as an artist. A couple of great ones are "Art, Money & Success" by Maria Brophy and "How to Sell Your Art Online" by Cory Huff. They both offer some really amazing advice. Brophy's book outlines some out-of-the-box ideas that I had never considered, while Huff mentions many activities that I know I should be doing, but don't want to do.
I'll be honest. Marketing is not something I enjoy. I don't like posting on social media. I don't like hocking my business cards. And I don't like writing.
One of the suggestions that Huff deems necessary to getting attention as an artist is to start a blog.
"But I don't wanna!", I can hear my inner child pouting while stomping her foot.
She got sent to sit in the corner for a while and finally came back with an unenthusiastic "fine".
So here I am, writing a blog. What better way to start a blog than by writing about blogging? I hope it will get more interesting from here. Enjoy your time on my site. I look forward to your feedback. Feel free to share. (Please share.) Here we go!
