The Covid State

Copper, brass, adhesive, nail polish

April 2020

This piece is a commentary on the current state of affairs. I always believed that we would come together as a people in a time of crisis. Sadly, I was mistaken. We seem to be more divisive than ever. People huddle with others on their side, represented here by red and blue (a not-so-subtle nod to US political parties), with nothing but empty space in the middle-ground. This adornment is meant to be worn with one color on the front and one on the back, making it nearly impossible to wear comfortably. The wearer will be unable to lean against a wall or sit back in a chair. If we were all on the same side – the side of humanity – this would not be a problem and the piece could be worn comfortably.
